Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, Maldives
AN ISLAND SANCTUARY IN THE BAA ATOLL UNESCO BIOSPHERE RESERVE
Welcome to one of the world’s most beautiful islands: a natural UNESCO Biosphere Reserve wilderness where iridescent blues, jungle greens and dazzling whites meet innovation, conservation and wellness. Snorkel with mantas in aquarium-like waters, rehabilitate sea turtles in our Marine Discovery Centre, experience world-class wellness at AyurMa and indulge in more-than-Michelin-starred dining at Blu Beach Club.
WHO SHOULD GO
Distinguished families, lovers, friends and solo travelers looking to be pampered, have fun and experience a deeper connection with nature, especially with the ocean. Oh and food lovers will not be disappointed as there are plenty of options to feast on several spectacular restaurants.
This is one of my favorite places on earth and I am fortunate to have had three wonderful stays at magical Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Bringing you closer than ever to the stunning marine world around you, the spectacular Bungalows and Villas either offer direct ocean or beach access, or sit effortlessly above the turquoise water on stilts.
I always recommend sunset villas, be it water villas (my favorites!) or beach villas (also amazing and safer for kids) A sunset villa means in the morning the water in front of you will be clear because the sun will be behind you and not in your face, and of course, later in the day, you’ll enjoy the beautiful colorful sunset from the privacy of your own Villa.
WHERE TO EAT
BLUE BEACH CLUB
The all-day hangout serves up sophisticated Italian cuisine, spectacular sunsets and an unbeatable ambience. Chill under poolside cabanas as you savour Neapolitan pizza, authentic gelato and menus crafted by Michelin-distinguished Italian chef Gaetano Trovato.
AL BARAKAT
Named for the North African scholar who made the Baa Atoll his home in the 12th century, the overwater restaurant offers stylish, indoor and outdoor-rooftop seating for you to sample the flavours of Lebanon, Morocco and Armenia.
CAFE LANDAA
Sit down in one of our three, thatched-roof dining pavilions, separated by calming reflecting ponds, for Asian and regional specialties from our tandoor and curry kitchen; or, join the chef at the teppanyaki counter in the middle of a dramatic water garden for an inspiring meal made right before your eyes.
FUEGO GRILL
Want something hearty for dinner after an adventure-packed day? Savour the fresh catch of the day as well as a wide selection of organic and prime-cut meats, salads and Asian dishes with your toes in the sand at this casual, beachfront grill.
BARS
There are also several bars throughout the resort offering delicious drinks and snacks.
WELLNESS
AyurMa Spa invites you to reset your awareness and embark on a new path to health, harmony and happiness. Supported by the four pillars of Ayurveda, Yoga Therapy, Wellness and Planetary Wellbeing – plus a multi award-winning team of Ayurvedic Doctors, Naturopaths and Yoga Therapists – discover individual and shared experiences designed to cultivate care for ourselves, others, the oceans and the entire planet.
EXPERIENCES AND SERVICES
You’ll never be bored at Landaa. There are four separate pools, water sports centre, marine discovery center, recreation centre, kids club and several couples experiences available.
HOW TO GET THERE
After landing at Male International Airport (MLE), your journey to Landaa Giraavaru continues with a 35-minute seaplane flight, giving you a spectacular view of the crystalline waters and remote islands.
Sink into the spacious Muirhead-leather seat on the Four Seasons Flying Triggerfish, one of the most Instagrammable 8-seat seaplanes to grace the Maldivian skies. Or, opt for the 14-seat aircraft by Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA). Whichever your choice, you will be greeted by Four Seasons representatives and escorted to check-in upon arrival.
SEAPLANE TRANSFER DETAILS
Waiting times in the private lounge rarely exceeds two hours.
Flight times are subject to weather conditions and schedules and may involve one short stop en route (TMA).
Opt to complete immigration formalities in the comfort of Velana Airport’s CIP lounge for your convenience.
Private seaplane transfers are also available.
Seaplanes only operate during daylight hours.
Six Senses Laamu, Maldives
THE ULTIMATE BAREFOOT LUXURY EXPERIENCE
Beautifully remote, yet accessible by plane and boat from Malé (MLE) International Airport, Six Senses Laamu is set in a palm-fringed lagoon to fill you with wonder and fuel your wanderlust. Villas with all the creature comforts are set either on stilts over the water or on the beachfront and are an easy wander from the resort's restaurants, lounges, and amazing Maldives attractions and destinations.
Yes, it does take longer to get to Six Senses Laamu. Instead of a quick seaplane from Male airport to your resort, you will take another commercial flight to another airport in the south of the country. And only then you will be picked up by the hotel boat. But is it worth the hassle? Absolutely! So don't get discouraged because you will be rewarded for your patience.
The upside? You will be in a remote location which means no neighbors in sight. The truth is the Maldives are becoming a bit crowded near its capital Male. Due to a boom in interest in the past few years there are a lot of properties being built and even artificial islands being created. Which means that, now from your resort, it’s not uncommon to see a neighboring resort or even several of them depending on where you are. If you ask me, it does take you away from the paradise, remote island experience. So going a bit farther from the capital in this case, is a great idea.
WHERE TO SLEEP
Six Senses Laamu has 97 spacious water and beachfront villas in the Maldives, carefully designed to harmonize with the outstanding natural beauty of the island. They offer privacy, coziness, and comfort. True to the Six Senses philosophy of being in harmony with the environment, all of Six Senses Laamu’s villas are crafted from local and sustainable materials.
Although every Villa is stunning, I always recommend a Water Villa because being on water is the quintessential Maldives experience. Sunset Villas are always the best choice so you get the clear water in the morning (no bright sunshine in your face) and the view of the sunset in the late afternoon.
If you are traveling with small kids, a beach Villa might be in order for safety reasons. They are spacious and only steps away from the same pristine water that surrounds the Water Villas.
WHAT TO DO
Explore uninhabited islands, go island hopping, meet the locals and relax on secluded sandbanks. Snorkel in the coral-rich house reef rubbing fins with colorful fish. Dive the deep blue as early birds or night owls. Surf the Yin Yang. Or just hang.
There is so much to do I won’t list all of the activities, what I’ll say is that there’s something for everyone. Couples who want to relax can have a private meal on the sandbank surrounded by clear water, enjoy the Six Senses Spa. Active families and friends can jetski and wakeboard.
As for me, I’m happy playing in the warm water most of the day, kayaking, stand up paddling, getting a massage, and at night I recommend watching a movie on the beach - Cinema Under the Stars is an unforgettable experience..
